To protest taxes is to protest the way we pay government bills and enable the very rich to dodge paying their fair (progressive) share. To paraphrase Justice Louis Brandeis, we can have democracy or we can have great concentration of wealth, but we can't have both. This was also the view of Thomas Jefferson, who may have envisioned a nation of independent small farmers. 9.
