Deconstructing Glenn Beck Lies

Principle 3

with one comment

3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.

Honesty ‘I hope that I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider to be the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.’ George Washington

Don’t EVEN get me started, Glenn, on the topic of YOUR HONESTY. Too late. I’m going to address some of this directly to YOU, Glenn Beck.

To Glenn Beck:

You are one of the most serial, pathological, and vicious liars in the right wing noise machine today. Your lies are profoundly deep, your delusional conspiracy theories are based on fantasies, and your smug behavior while shouting lies over guests and callers is legendary.

OK, to everybody else….

Here are a few examples. According to Glenn Beck, AmeriCorps is a plot by President Obama to create a secret, ARMED, paramilitary spy force like the Nazi Gestapo to spy on people, probably mostly people who follow him. In this clip, one of his guests says that Obama is going to give AmeriCorps half a trillion dollars! LOL, does he have any idea how ridiculous that is? A half a trillion dollars is almost as much money as Bush gave under TARP to bail out Wall Street! Watch for yourself….

That is a totally outrageous charge, totally unfounded, and without any basis in fact. Yet Glenn Beck keeps repeating it over and over, as if he believes that chanting it will make it so. What does AmeriCorps REALLY do? If people want the FACTS about AmeriCorps they can simply visit the AmeriCorps website. AmeriCorps is an organization that provides a structure for volunteers who want to help their fellow Americans. Wow, how devious is that? It’s terrible, they must be commies because they VOLUNTEER their time to help their COMRADES, the American people. Yes, every day they go to work and salute the Nazi flag and say this:

The AmeriCorps Pledge

I will get things done for America -
to make our people safer,
smarter, and healthier.

I will bring Americans together
to strengthen our communities.

Faced with apathy,
I will take action.

Faced with conflict,
I will seek common ground.

Faced with adversity,
I will persevere.

I will carry this commitment
with me this year and beyond.

I am an AmeriCorps member,
and I will get things done.

Glenn, you ditz.

Another example? OK. Glenn Beck embarked on a crusade against ACORN and actually had some success with this one. His campaign got Governors Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and Bobby Jindal of Louisiana to dramatically issue executive orders to stop funding ACORN. Oh, that’s right, Minnesota and Louisiana weren’t actually funding ACORN, so their grandstanding gesture was just sucking up to the phony conservative base. But HERE IS THE TRUTH ABOUT ACORN. ACORN is a group that has been helping poor communities in the US for the last 40 years. They have been instrumental in helping the people displaced by hurricane Katrina. They have also been busy helping poor people to register to vote, which is the real reason you hate them. Poor people tend to vote Democratic and there’s the rub, right, Glenn? Because Democrats are all about turning the world into communism, they’re all dirty REDS, probably all name their first-born Ivan or Ivana. Sheesh.

Glenn Beck had an ACORN spokesman on his show and shouted him down for 5 minutes before “throwing him off the set” because Beck claimed he called him a “racist”. (BTW, Glenn Beck has a deep-seated fear of black people and therefore he reviles them. He is making a living by appealing to that same disgusting trait in a tiny percentage of Americans who share his irrational fear of anyone who doesn’t look like them). On behalf of the millions of people who have been helped by ACORN over the last 39 years, I extend my 3rd finger. Be sure to visit the link above to read the truth about what ACORN actually does.

I enjoyed Glenn Beck’s lie about health care reform that sent people into town halls shouting about death panels and socialized medicine. Yeah, you helped, Glenn, on August 6th. During the radio show, Glenn Beck breathlessly claimed that he had quotes from people surrounding Obama that matched up with quotes from the Nazis. Therefore, in Glenn Beck’s mind, because a couple of quotes sorta matched up, ergo the Obama health care plan MUST BE EUGENICS! “Whatever you do, don’t miss THIS show, because it’s the most important show I’ve done!” (Each new show is the most important, including the one where Beck threw a fake frog into a pot of boiling water). It seems laughable, if you really want a good laugh you ought to give it a listen. Oh, “Hillary Clinton.” Oh, “empty out the sanitariums”, kill the “crippled babies”, and of course, “granny’s had a good life, so” … no more medical care for her.

Glenn Beck lies about Barack Obama, he lies about what the Constitution means or doesn’t mean, he lies about public policy, about public persons, he lies about anything and everything as easily as most people breathe. Glenn Beck’s lies are hyperbolic and shrill, but he keeps repeating them and after a few hundred times he starts defending them as fact.

So in this “principle” Beck asks people to strive for honesty, but he lies continuously. I’m no psychologist, but I’ll bet that a psychologist would say that that Glenn Beck has deep-seated emotional problems that exhibit themselves as bizarre behavior. Glenn Beck would probably call the psychologist a “liberal”. I’m a bit more cynical than the psychologists. I think Beck lies for money, and for LOTS of money. According to an article in The Business Insider, Glenn Beck makes $18 million a year. Lying for money… that’s probably about a dollar a lie.

As an aside, I recently re-read Senator Al Franken’s excellent book Lies, and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them from 2003. I hope Al will find time to do a second edition to cover the new class of liars at Fox News Channel, the most distorted, demented, and disgusting POS cable channel that ever existed.

I welcome comments about Glenn Beck’s 3rd Principle. All comments are moderated, and will generally be published if they have content worth publishing. Have at it!

  1. 3. Trying to be more honest means actually doing it, not just becoming an ever more skillful bullshitter and self-deluded psycho. This might be a place to plug a recent book by a philosophy prof. I think he used that vulgar term in the title to describe a new truth-functional status. In elementary logic, a statement can be true or false. A statement could be false because of an honest mistake, or because of a lie in which the statement is made with the awareness that it’s a lie. A third status is that a statement is made not because it’s true or because it’s a deliberate lie, but because the speaker/writer doesn’t CARE whether it’s true or false, and only cares whether it is PERSUASIVE. The good prof used the term bullshit to describe this logical status. It’s very common in politics and unfortunately also common in the commentary sold as news. Factual commentary good, lies and BS bad. Beck is such a dodger and weaver concerning the facts he doesn’t want to admit, and his frame of reference is very often false.
