Glenn Beck Fail: “We own Civil Rights”

with 12 comments

Glenn Beck has made a colossal misjudgment by attempting turn the most pivotal speech of the 20th Century into an attempt to hawk his moronic books.

Dr. Martin Luther King, "I have a dream" speech, 8/28/1963

This has nothing to do with Mormons, GOP white power and homophobia, de facto racial caste systems, and especially not Glenn Beck

Forty-seven years ago this August, as we neared the end of legal racial discrimination in this nation, the civil rights battle was being waged in the trenches. Black and white marchers were being attacked and sometimes killed in the streets by mobs of white supremacists and the KKK. College students organized and disrupted business-as-usual in selected towns across the country. The intellectuals, socialists, anarchists, musicians, and clergy across the spectrum of left politics joined with black civil rights leaders to pressure the US Government to intervene on behalf of racial minorities to pass national legislation to outlaw racial discrimination in employment, public services, and elsewhere.

Into this rich sea of civil disobedience, protests, riots, lynchings, music, murder, and mayhem, a new historical revision is being trotted out by Glenn Beck and a few others who are shameless enough to try it. Here’s how it goes, according to Beck:

I have to tell you something. I believe in divine providence. I believe this is a reason, because whites don’t own the founding fathers. Whites don’t own Abraham Lincoln. Blacks don’t own Martin Luther King.

I tell you right now, we are on the right side of history, we are on the side of individual freedoms and liberties and damn it, we will reclaim the civil rights moment. We will take that movement because we were the people that did it in the first place.

Oh, so let’s see now, you’re saying that since nobody “owns” Abraham Lincoln or Dr. King due to being the same race, then the reactionary white racists of today led by the TeaBaggers, the GOP (former Dixiecrats), the 2nd Amendment pukes like the OathKeepers, homophobes and religious fanatics, can now take credit for civil rights???? Not only take credit for it, not only own it, but be the guardians of civil rights!

Beck says that his people, whomever they are, are going to “reclaim” the civil rights movement. He says they will reclaim it because “we were the people that did it in the first place.”

Let me interject one thing here. This is a partial rewrite of what I posted last night, and I didn’t have a couple of those quotes I used above. But let me assure you since I was THERE, I can attest to the plain truth that Glenn Beck and anyone who is like him today, if they were involved at all, were on the other side of the barricade.

Al Sharpton was the guest on Keith Olbermann’s show tonight (July 1) and the topic came around to the Glenn Beck book sale in the general area of the Lincoln Memorial scheduled for August 28. This coincides, not by any coincidence, with the 47th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, one of the most powerful and best-remembered speeches in American history. 200,000 civil rights movement supporters heard the speech live, jamming the Memorial and the reflecting pool mall with a sea of humanity that has only been outdone by Barack Obama’s Inaugural Address.

Mr. Sharpton pointed out that Beck’s thesis that his people are the heirs to the civil rights movement is so flawed as to be ridiculous. And he did it without even bringing up the racial issues (such as the fact that Mormons believe that black people are cursed by God and refused to let them enjoy the privileges of male membership until forced to in 1978). First, according to Sharpton, the TeaBaggers and such are the people who are always railing against Big Government, and now Beck is revising that to say that they were in favor of the national government of the US intervening in every aspect of Jim Crow to stop it. How effing stupid would you have to be to swallow THAT? Second, the people that Dr. King ran with were socialist, liberals, commies, and other people who are the political opposite of what the Becktards believe in. They constantly scream about “liberal elitists” and see “socialist plots” in any action that the government takes.

Dr. King had a dream; Glenn Beck has a scheme and it's to grab every goddam dollar he can get his money-grubbing mitts on

Dr. King had a dream; Glenn Beck has a scheme and it's to grab every goddam dollar he can get his money-grubbing mitts on

Thirdly, and probably most importantly, is that the GOP, the TeaBaggers, and their ilk, are the Party of Grabbasticism. They are not “anti-socialism” they are ANTI-SOCIAL. They have no idea whatsoever, no concept, of living in a community, a nation, with the commitment to each other that we all sink or swim together.

Grabbasticism is the term I like to use for “I got mine, SCREW YOU.” They never gave a crap about any person of color, back in 1863, 1963, or today. The only use they have for Latinos is doing yard work and working in nursing homes cleaning shit out of the diapers of their parents, whom they have no use for whatsoever once the inheritance is decided. The only use for blacks, well, they have NO use for them now that slavery is illegal. The GOP looks at black people as The Enemy. They will never vote GOP, never.

I will write more on Beck’s cracked thesis that he now leads the movement that “owns” civil rights as the August 28th date approaches. I believe that this is a HUGE miscalculation on his part; although there is no planned counter-demonstration at this time, I predict that August 28 will be a national day of humiliation that will generate so much anti-Beck backlash that even Fox will have to pull the plug on it.

Glenn Beck is going to play his hand. For a cheap chance to gather up a few complete idiots willing to part with their money, he is going to open up the wounds that were healed by the Civil Rights Act or 1964. He is going to make America relive the ugly truth, he is going to make us look in the mirror. Some of us will not like what we see.

Stay tuned….

Update 7/8/10

Today Glenn tried to prove a couple of idiotic points about a dead person. (Just a thought, Glenn… I know you think you’re going to live forever, but what do you think people are going to say about you and your sister-screwing ass after you’re gone?)

OK so here’s the scoop. Beck thinks that it’s a “liberal media plot” that there is no film of Senator Robert Byrd filibustering the Civil Rights Act in 1964. First the fact, then the assumption.

The FACT is that no cameras were allowed in the Senate except for special occasions until 1974. Um, what’s the word I’m looking for here… um, IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, you DO ALL YOUR OWN RESEARCH, DO YOU???? Has anyone told you about Google, Glenn?

Now for the assumption. The assumption here is part of Glenn’s bigger argument that Byrd filibustered Civil Rights, and Byrd was a Democrat, and THEREFORE, (are you paying attention, Beck U students? This will be on the FINAL!) the GOP especially Glenn Beck OWNS Civil Rights!

What did Robert Byrd actually say about his positions on race?

Bernard Shaw interview, 1993:

Q: What has been your biggest mistake and your biggest success?

A: Well, it’s easy to state what has been my biggest mistake. The greatest mistake I ever made was joining the Ku Klux Klan. And I’ve said that many times. But one cannot erase what he has done. He can only change his ways and his thoughts. That was an albatross around my neck that I will always wear. You will read it in my obituary that I was a member of the Ku Klux Klan.

The NAACP “report card” gave Byrd a 100% voting record for 2003-2004. This may affect Beck’s report card at the University of Truth.

Earth to Beck/GOP

with one comment

David Frum blasts right wingnuts

Glenn Beck, moderate GOPERs, the very very few that are left, revile you and your insanity

David Frum is a well-known figure in the conservative political world. His last big gig was speechwriter for George W. Bush. Here is his reaction to those who approached health care reform by lying about it, reviling it, inserting outrageous amendments into it, and never, ever, EVER intending to cast a vote for it (or support it in any way). You might have seen some of these people at your town halls this summer, or Glenn Beck’s 1000 man march, or on the evening news with guns and holsters strapped to their legs, holding signs depicting Obama as Hitler or The Joker, yelling racial epithets, and claiming the the Democrats won’t be happy until there are Death Panels to kill you, your grandparents, and your children.

Here’s what David Frum says to YOU… (Listen up, Glennie-boy, he’s talking about YOU).

“No illusions please: This bill will not be repealed. Even if Republicans scored a 1994 style landslide in November, how many votes could we muster to re-open the “doughnut hole” and charge seniors more for prescription drugs? How many votes to re-allow insurers to rescind policies when they discover a pre-existing condition? How many votes to banish 25 year olds from their parents’ insurance coverage? And even if the votes were there – would President Obama sign such a repeal?

We followed the most radical voices in the party and the movement, and they led us to abject and irreversible defeat.

Hmmm. “The most radical voices in the party and the movement.” I wonder WTF he could be talking about.

Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Mike Weiner Savage, Laura Ingram, John Boehner, Michelle Bachmann, Steve King, Eric Cantor, Virginia Foxx, Gretchen Carlson, Bill O’Reilly… the list is seemingly endless.

Frum is exactly right. The intellectual, moderate conservative movement has been shoved out the door by radical politicians and talk show hosts and the radical political entrepreneurs who host them on the airwaves. Rupert Murdoch and Gold Bond powder.

You tried everything you could to kill health care. You made up lies about it. You hired slick PR firms to come up with half a billion dollars worth of negative TV about it. You chatted it up endlessly as socialism, communism, baby-killing, anti-American, un-Constitutional, unnecessary, invasion of privacy, and so on. You lied. Oh, the lies were grand, the conspiracy theories were exquisite, and the whole lot of it did no good for you at all.

FAIL.

CPAC ninnies wowed by ace liar Beck

with 2 comments

Glenn Beck's CPAC speech, predictably

Nothing refreshes the GOP faithful more than a daily constitutional

UPDATE 6/14/10
Sorry it took me so long to getting around to this, but I finally did find a transcript of Beck’s CPAC speech. You will NOT want to miss reading this if you haven’t already. It’s one thing to see the performance, yet another to read it.

Thanks and a BIG HOWDY to Topher Lynch, who not only took the time to transcribe this at great personal sacrifice, but also had the sense to post it at Gather. A tip of the hat, America thanks you!

UPDATE: 2/27/10

Glenn Beck’s slash-and-burn schtick fired up the CPAC loony bin by repeating lie after distortion after smear, the most comforting material that he could present to America’s dead political party. It’s hard to imagine how so much crap could come out of a human being in a short period of time.

Beck (with Palin and the rest of the GOP) is attempting  to drag the TeaBaggers into the fold,  kicking and screaming, but they are so thick that most of them have yet to realize it.  Some of them are getting suspicious. (Hmmm… both of them are paid contributors to Faux News, the official propaganda organ of the GOP. Palin was the Vice Presidential candidate for the GOP in the last election. Glenn Beck has never said one nice thing about any Democrat.  Sarah Palin has repeatedly stated that she has no use for the “liberal elitists” and would rather be chasing down animals in a helicopter and shooting them with weapons designed for war than serving as Governor in a corrupt system.   Hmmm. D’ya think…?)

Tonight we hear that Beck and Palin are going on a 2-stop tour to TeaBagger-land, the first stop in Oklahoma, the intellectual center of gravity in America and also home to lots of fancy dancing by men in cowboy hats with shit-kickers that never saw any shit. Watching these two on the same stage reminds me of the dance scene with Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle in Young Frankenstein, doing the soft shoe to “Puttin’ on the Ritz” for a thrilled crowd until an explosion casts a flash of light on them.

Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin do the Soft Shoe

Gene Wilder can play Beck; since Peter Boyle is deceased perhaps they could have a dancing bear play Palin.

At that moment the monster goes wild and runs amok. Surely whatever they say or do cannot stand the light of scrutiny by a critical press. Why else would Sarah Palin try to shut them out of their events? My other question… would Gene Wilder consider impersonating Glenn Beck for a parody remake of the scene?

The Beck CPAC speech lies and abuses have been well-documented by Ryan Witt in the Des Moines Register at the following link:

http://www.examiner.com/x-5738-Political-Buzz-Examiner~y2010m2d21-Video-Commentary-and-fact-check-of-Glenn-Becks-CPAC-speech?#comments

I am looking for an “official” transcript of the speech and will try to get one up on a separate page. Ryan has done a great job of detailing the lying sack-o’-doody, but in case he’s missed any I’ll be doing my own fact check as well.

BTW, you should be careful when you search for Beck transcripts. I put this into Google and it spit up a link that tried to infect my computer. If this happens to you, please press Alt-F4 (the Alt key and the F4 key simultaneously) until all the windows related to your browser close. In this process, you may reboot your computer if you press the combination after all windows are closed; this is still better than having to disinfect your browser.

I am not sure who would want to discourage you from reading a transcript of Glenn Beck’s CPAC speech, which is why I will post a clean copy here when I get one.

Glenn Beck Rejected By Appendix

with 10 comments

Glenn Beck's distended appendix will be baptized in a ceremony at an undisclosed Mormon Tabernacle.

Glenn Beck's distended appendix will be baptized in a ceremony at an undisclosed Mormon Tabernacle and buried next to his hemorrhoids.

Many of my readers will be saddened to know that Glenn Beck was stricken with appendicitis last week and thereby missed out on taking an active role in Michele Bachmann’s Teaparty Extravaganza/FAIL on Thursday.

One of my Twitter followers pointed out that I neglected to cover Glenn in a tweet that I made regarding his illness.
The Tweet was something along the line of

Each year 390 Americans die from appendicitis. Why couldn’t one of them have been Glenn?

In an effort to set the record straight, I wanted to post it here because I know the little man-baby egomaniac stops by here on a regular basis. (He does all his own research, you know, PLUS he’s a paranoid little ‘tard who thinks everyone is out to get him. GLENN, take your meds, dude, NOBODY really gives a shit.) I wanted to make sure that he gets the message even if his manservant won’t read insulting, bad tweets to him.

In related news, ThinkProgress had a story that postulates that Glenn is likely in the care of SEIU nurses. Oooh, SCARY! I wonder if Glenn has thought that through, and if so, did he double his around-the-clock no-neck staff plus his team of personal physicians? LOL!

Glenn is probably still sore about what happened to his ass last time he was in the hospital. He made the famous video clip where he’s obviously feeling very sorry for himself and wonders how all the people with no insurance who aren’t millionaire media stars make it. Obviously that hasn’t changed his position on health insurance reform, though, because THAT’S an Obama socialist fascist Nazi plot! LOL here we go….

Glenn says that his care was incredibly bad and he has stories that will “melt your brain”. For some reason he brings up the “president of GE” as being a patient there (is that public information? I don’t think so…) and if “they don’t care about the president of GE, you really think they care about schlubs that are just average working stiffs?” WTF are you talking about, Glenn? Are you comparing yourself to the president of GE? Are you calling yourself a “working stiff” with your estimated $18 million annual income?

I truly believe that whatever happened to Glenn Beck while he was in the hospital was a visit from Instant Karma and I don’t think he “got” it. Glenn, you’re not a schlub, you’re a schmuck. And Mormons don’t use words like that, it’s against your cult orders. BTW, are you even circumcised? If not, don’t worry about it, they can have you in and out of there before you can say “Bony Moroni”.

9/12 Project Site: Hacks, Cowards, Liars, and Whack Jobs

with 6 comments

They be snakes about....

They be snakes about....

I have been trying to do my due diligence to keep current with Glenn Beck’s smears, lies, antics, simplistic lunatic fringe gobbledy-gook like the “9 principles”. I could be busier with this, admittedly, but I’ve got another two websites to maintain not to mention trying to maintain my own sanity while wading through the Bizarro-World of Glenn Beck and his copious mouth. He churns out material faster than a pasture full of horses with diarrhea shoots out a substance with similar properties.

But I have waded into the 9/12 Project website armed with a posting account that seems like I need to get a new password every time I try to post there, and also the sense that there may be a few dozen folks lingering in the weeds who could use some mental health help. A lot of the people that go there are like me, more or less in the same category as rubberneckers who can’t rip back control of their eyeballs from the train wreck that’s happening before them. Judging by the posters, quite a few visitors are living the parodies of liberals’ mocking imagination; hate-blind, redneck, racist American Exceptionalism true believers who don’t quite get it yet that the power structure they’re working for is working against them. But some are genuine conservative thinkers, whose opinions are thoughtfully constructed even though their frame of reference is from another dimension.

We want our country back from the darkie

We want our country back from the darkie

The 9/12 Project website suffers from a lack of focus. First, it’s the home of the “9 Principles and and 12 Values”. If only Glenn had included “Truth” and “Reason” as values (or should those have been together in the First Principle?) We, The People”, its banner menacingly challenges, “Demand Answers.” Being Glenn Beck’s trans-Bectarded apologist site for the nationwide movement of teabaggers who showed up in Washington by the hundreds waving their guns and hate signs about our black President (or showed up by the millions in Michelle Malkin’s photoshopped mind) it has to include a certain amount of empty threats. Ho hum. Like the teabaggers are going to get into a shootout with the US government on our own soil. Maybe they ought to Google “Ruby Ridge” or “Waco” for some background info on how that works out.

But the 9/12 website is also a perfect demonstration of what happened when Americans and the media that disservice us got it through their heads that there was “liberal media bias” which needed to be corrected by “fair and balanced” news. The way this fallacious notion altered news reporting is both interesting and tragic. The interesting part is how so-called “hard news” journalists try to include opposing facts or opinions masquerading as facts in every news story. The rationale is that if the writer does this, they are giving themselves more authority by proving that they do not have an axe to grind. The problem with this is that most news does not have counterbalancing facts, it only has facts. When you are reporting on opinions, there are plenty of those on both sides, but facts are facts and they don’t have a liberal or conservative value. That’s the tragic part; Americans have now accepted reporting on opinion in an adversarial fashion to be “news”. Some people call this “infotainment”. There are better names for it. The best one is propaganda.

A quick survey down the index page of the912project.com will illustrate exactly what I mean. In the news… a link to a Wall Street Journal op-ed by lobbyist Joel Jankowski defending lobbyists against Obama’s policy controlling lobbyist access to the White House. Poor lobbyists, can’t get a break. Another link to a WSJ story about how “Organized labor appears to be gaining the upper hand in the skies and on rails, as labor and business battle for influence under the Obama administration.” A link to a web-published American Thinker article by Randy Fardal (who is clearly out of his ever-loving mind) who suggests that smart power meters could be used by “the bribable (sic) government” to turn off power to those who those who don’t support them. Next, a link to a Washington Examiner opinion piece apparently mistakenly put in the “news” column. This is the second piece (at least) that 9/12 has put up about the NEA funding “Obama’s agenda” and making a load of nefarious and meaningless connections between minor players in “ACORN-style groups” and the “President’s agenda”. I guess that rules out any paintings of black people, poor people, unions, or the words “Change”, “Hope”, and any combination of the above.

Continuing down the “News” column I founds something that truly shocked me. A link to an article on HuffPo by “Freddy Krueger” (played in several Nightmare on Elm Street movies by actor/activist Robert Englund). Englund’s article on HuffPo listed his “5 worst fears” and the top one was the lack of reality-based discussion on health care reform. This, he says, is because of fearmongering by teabaggers and other righties with their “pull the plug on grannie” lies. This story was linked in order to steer teabaggers to HuffPo to trash the comments section. Good luck. They’re moderating comments.

Next up, a link to a chunk of The Master himself, from the Glenn Beck Show where he crows about driving the Republican candidate for New York Congressional District 23 out of the race. Glenn says that this is proof that what he’s doing is working, and I hope he’s right. The more moderates they drive away from the GOP the sooner it will collapse. The very next incongruous link is to a GOP list of “new bureaucracies” that the “House Republican Conference claims are created in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s health care reform bill”. Of course, the Speaker doesn’t really have a bill, but that doesn’t stop them from listing 111 imaginary offices that they claim are part of some bill, with references to the bill. But a quick survey shows that they are double dipping to try to make something out of nothing. An example of this is listing an office and then listing each of its functions as a separate office. GOP dishonesty doesn’t seem to bother Glenn Beck except when he’s trying to bash them out of office.

I am not a racist because I disagree with Obama

I am not a racist because I disagree with Obama

Next we have a report entitled “First Coast Tea Party Hosts ‘D.C. Dirty Tricks’ Town Hall”. This reads like something a 5th grader would have written if the 5th grader knew nothing about American government. There are shocking revelations to be had within the aura of Glenn Beck. That’s because whack job Mormon millenialists see all kinds of things that regular people can’t see, kind of like cats. Here we have photos of the meeting. One of them shows a woman wearing a t-shirt proclaiming that just because she disagrees with Obama that she’s not a racist. Another shows the hall with approximately 400 white people in it and… how many black people? See if you can count them.

Find the Negro at the teabagger party... trick question.

Find the Negro at the teabagger party... trick question.

Running quickly down the column, we have a piece accusing Biden of “featherbedding” stimulus job numbers. Another piece about Van Jones accusing him of being tied to anti-Beck-Limbaugh-Fox group (so?) A scare piece by Robert J. Samuelson “Could America Go Broke?” in the WaPo. Another link to an opinion column by Norma White, who wants to sound like Andy Rooney espousing her opinion that the “change” that America voted for last November is a laundry list of righty populist ideas heavily loaded with anti-immigrant phraseology. Then another fear piece about swine flu and frightened patients, this included to stoke the fires for the necessity for everyone to pack heat, even in the doctors office. Last (thankfully) in the column, another article from American Thinker, this one by Clarice Feldman who claims that the American paradigm has been changed and the one that is being forced on us is collectivist. This is nothing but red-scare-baiting BS straight from the trickle-down economic sector of the GOP top 1%.

That’s just the “news” column. In the “video” column, a boatload of Faux News propaganda. While I was writing this, they put up the clip from the lying snake of a GOP Congresswoman from North Carolina Virginia Fox, who says that health care reform is a bigger threat to America than terrorists. (They updated the “news” column, too, but I can’t keep up with these lying SOBs, they can lie faster than I can type.) Next: 10,000 attend Tea Party in Houston. (yeah, right.) A propaganda piece by GOP Congressman Mike Pence invoking Reagan against health care reform as “government takeover” of health care. He says “Pelosi plan” half a dozen times and she has none. Pence is noted for gibberish. A piece by self-proclaimed grass roots organization named “Grassfire.net” which also lists Resistnet.com, two anti-Obama websites, details their attempts to crash the Senate Office Building with anti-health-care-reform petitions.

Next is the notorious Michelle Bachmann clip from her appearance on the Sean Hannity program where she states that she wants people to show up in Washington DC where they can “see the whites of their eyes”. Bachmann has previously suggested that teabaggers should show up for her “armed and dangerous”. Why do they have to see the whites of their congressperson’s eyes? So they can pull out their guns and blaze away, I suppose.

I expect that any website run by Glenn Beck or his minions would have a certain degree of insanity to it, and it doesn’t disappoint. As I am documenting on this site, the 9/12 Project itself is an attempt to manipulate people who are insane from fear into becoming tools for a particularly cruel and demented political/religious agenda. Feed their fears. Stoke them with conspiracy theories. Revive red-baiting, gay-baiting, race-baiting, the whole phantasmal convergence of right wing/Mormon nutjob perversion of human decency. Anything that doesn’t fit exactly into their weird, narrow worldview is labeled with some kind of a “communist” label. That includes people, especially black people.

There hasn’t been an external communist threat to America since the end of the Cold War and even back then it was the threat of accidental mutual annihilation. But that never kept Glenn Beck’s hero Cleon Skousen from seeing a red behind every tree and bush in America. And as Reagan would have said, “There you go again”. Reagan would have gotten a good chuckle out of the confusing interchangeability (to the 9/12vers) of the words “communist”, “socialist”, “black nationalist”, “fascist”, “Nazi”, and “progressive”. l find Beck’s harping on “progressives” to be completely amusing. Glenn, the opposite of “progressive” is “regressive”, which fits you to a TEE. The opposite of “social” is “anti-social”, which also fits Glenn nicely. I’ll bet when he was a kid he didn’t play well with others.

Glenn Beck without his makeup

Glenn Beck without his makeup

Enough of this already. I’m calling the 9/12 Project what it is. It’s dishonest and it’s full of disaffected GOP hacks masquerading as Libertarians. It is a flock of pathetic cowards trying to bully its way into power by showing up to public meetings waving guns and threatening signs. (Are you listening, “I Am The MOB” freaks?) It is infested with liars scheming to undermine the the earnest efforts of those of us who are frantically manning the pumps to keep us from sinking after 8 years of George W. Bush. And worst of all, the people I actually feel sorry for, are the whack jobs that have gotten sucked into the fear, spin, and lies machine fueled by Rupert Murdoch’s disdain for American culture even while he profits from destroying it. The whack jobs who believe that the only way to save America is to destroy it, the people who want to “take our country back” because there’s no way a black man could be President, the people who have lost their jobs, their homes, their children, all lost to the churning machine fueled by the top 1%’s greed and manipulation.

They seem kind of dangerous and sad, don’t they?

Glenn Beck has “net neutrality” confused with “Fair and Balanced”

with 11 comments

I’ve seen a lot of wakko stuff coming from the First Spokesbaby of the Mormon Waahbernacle. But this has got to be the lamest bad attempt at spin I’ve ever heard, even from Glenn Beck, which is saying a lot.

We need a bit of history on “net neutrality”. In a nutshell, what that means is when you request a packet of information or send a packet of information over the internet, it has an equal chance to pass through the system as every other packet sent or received. There are no preferences given to “paying customers” of the system because we ALL pay for it through our ISP charges, webhosting fees, and whatever other incidental costs to us as taxpayer/citizens.

The right wing business lobby has been licking their chops trying to change this “my packets are equal to your packets” system into a “pay for access” system where those who have money to spend (like corporations, for example) can pay off the internet services to give THEIR packets or packets of their choice PRIORITY over your packets. What this would result in is a multi-tiered system where popups, ads, and other commercial and business web traffic will go at high speed, your personal traffic will be down in the dumpster.

That’s the 10,000 foot overview. Into the discussion wades Glenn Beck, armed with an agenda but no real information, and RWNJ think-tank Americans for Prosperity toady Phil Kerpen, who is obviously no expert on anything except blowing smoke up the colon of America. Watch the clip:

OMG. Did I just hear Glenn say at 1:13 that net neutrality is analogous to “I don’t remember anybody saying in the 1930s that everybody had a right to radio and we gave away free radios through the government, and I don’t remember anybody saying in the 1950s that everybody had the right to free television but that’s where we’re headed now.” Oh, Glenn, you are such a FAIL. Your analogy is a total failure. It’s not even close to what net neutrality is about. First off, your straw man argument is phony because it’s based on the falsehood that there is a proposal to give away free televisions. Where did you hear that one, Glenn? LOL it must have been the voices that got through your tinfoil hat.

Further, your analogy FAILS because your dumbass attempt to confuse the medium with the hardware crumbles under the weight of its own stupidity. Broadcast media is one-way communications that is paid for by commercials or taxpayer funds. Internet traffic is two-way communication that allows people to send and receive content from their own hardware through the public internet system. What you’re proposing to do is to make it a PRIVATE system where members of the general public will have to pay $$ to private companies if they want to have equal access to the system. In other words, you are doing what you ALWAYS do, which is tout the AMERICAN CASTE SYSTEM.

What you ramble into at 2:50 is paranoid anti-government ranting (well, ALL of your ranting is paranoid and most of it is anti-government so this is stating the obvious) about how the FCC wants to take over television so it’s “all like the BBC”. FAIL. There is NOBODY in the FCC who has ever thought that, Glenn. You are a moron for saying it and your moron righty astroturfer Phil Kerpen is an asshat for agreeing with you. Laughable!

Glenn says you have to wait until tomorrow to find out whose behind the “conspiracy” to take over the internet. I don’t make you wait, you can see it all in the video and widget below. No waiting required.

Just in case you have any doubts about net neutrality, and why it’s really the only way to go, please watch the following video. It will take about 5 minutes.

Also, you might enjoy this widget, which interactively allows you to see the groups who are actively trying to make you pay extra for your bandwidth. You know the commercial where the brown-haired woman gets pissed off about a few cents tax on soda and then leaves the trunk open? If the people in this widget get their way, you’ll WISH it was just a few cents. Enjoy.

Ready, Shoot, Aim! Glenn swings at ACORN airball

with 2 comments

Coward, liar, psychopath

Coward, liar, psychopath

By now everyone in the US who hasn’t been hiding in a cave ought to know that Glenn Beck is on a jihad against black people in general and one particular black man in the White House. Ever since Glenn convinced the GOP to go even fringier than normal and take after Van Jones, he has puffed himself up to believe that he actually might be onto something, after all. I guess you can get the DTs from cocaine, too.

Enter Obama’s political affairs director Patrick Gaspard. The American Spectator, a conservative online newspaper trying to make a name for itself, got a quote from Wade Rathke’s blog which they quoted as saying:

Tell me that 1199′s former political director, Patrick Gaspard (who was ACORN New York’s political director before that) didn’t reach out from the White House and help make that happen, and I’ll tell you to take some remedial classes in “politics 101.”

In fact, Wade Rathke’s blog did indeed say that. But one problem; it wasn’t true and for once somebody who printed a false statement about the Obama Administration retracted it. Not an ordinary retraction, I might add, but a kick to the privates of the phony whining “conservatives” who trade in falsehoods and impossible conspiracy theories. Rathke posted, in part,

Patrick was never on the staff of ACORN. I double checked with people I still know there, and it appears that I dropped a stitch there. Hopefully my misstatement won’t lead to the White House throwing him in front of the bus in this rush to neo-McCarthyism that has become so prominent. In this case, my memory tricked me. I’m glad to carry the weight and simply say I made a mistake, and damned if I’m not sorry and hope no damage is done to a good man doing a hard job.

Let me quickly add, since I read Google alerts and have noticed that there is a attack squad at all manner of friends and associates I have had over the years, that for the formal record, I have NO friends. If there’s a problem with me, then bring it on, but for the rest of you, if you see me on the street, just nod and pass on by, if you are worried about it. Until we learn to all stand together and oppose this kind of blood sport political targeting, it’s going to be like this for a while. I’m just not sure how long it will take.

As of 10:00 PM Central, American Spectator, fine conservative noisemaker as they are (I kind of picture them as a whoopee cushion) have failed to take down the story or publish a retraction.  Ditto for Breitbart.  Fox News, ditto, because if it’s the Fox Nation, it must be TRUE!  Matt Drudge, wow, you took it down!  But it’s nice to see that you still slather ink over tsunamis, earthquakes, and Dan Rather.  (Is it possible to have a fetish about earthquakes?  Paging Dr. Freud, Dr. Freud…)

So what, you may ask, does a phony non-story ginned up by a crummy online newspaper and amplified by the conservative noise machine have to do with Glenn Beck?  Glad you asked, but I think you already know the answer.  Glenn Beck jumped all over this like a BIG DOG!  Ruff ruff, go sic ‘em, Spot! You might want to skip ahead to about 4:45 in the video.

Of course, Beck’s staff has taken down the story from his website, but… I have the VIDEO… so enjoy!  I will cut out the first 4:45 of it tomorrow and repost so you don’t have to wait for the fun and games!  Did you know that Gaspard was CEO Bertha Lewis’ “right hand man”!  “In FACT!” LOL… and did you know that SEIU and ACORN are really the SAME ORGANIZATION??? And, to top it off, Beck says the President has “ZERO CREDIBILITY!” Oh, I just can’t stand it.  I’ll finish this story when I can stop laughing uncontrollably!

Update September 30… National Review still has it up. New article by Kurtz, claiming that Obama has ties to labor. Gee, isn’t that what Democrats do? The Dems support the little guy, the GOPERS support the corporations. That’s why they lost the election. They suck up to money, not to votes.

Update October 1… National Review Online has taken down the Kurtz article. It does not appear in the “searchable archives” for the week. Anatomy of a GOP lie… make it up, spread it around, it gets debunked, take it down quietly.

Glenn Threatens Nancy Pelosi

without comments

In this classic segment, Glenn Beck has one of his staffers paste a Nancy Pelosi mask on her face and sits down at the table with her to share a glass of poisoned wine.

Beck is cluelessly trying to wage class warfare by taking a news bite that Pelosi is planning to host a two day issues conference at her home.  The Politico story Glenn is referring to here seems to be taking issue with the political reality that politicians have big donors and they hold events to raise money.  Glenn spins the story with numerous sarcastic statements designed to make you angry that Pelosi has money.  But wait… when GOPERs get rich, that’s OK, right, Glenn?  Or maybe not, because at 1:28 of the video clip Glenn oddly inserts a comment into his rant about Eric Cantor’s fundraiser for lobbyists where he raised $1 million.  Have you suddenly become a Marxist, Glenn?

Beck quickly goes back to his Pelosi theme, though, and at 1:45 or so the camera pans over to show another figure sitting at the table with Glenn.

The rest is classic.  Death threat to Nancy Pelosi at 2:34.  Glenn seems to come unglued after that, laughing insanely at a joke only he seems to get, dropping names and acting like the  grubby child from the wrong side of the tracks that decent people wouldn’t let their kids play with.  What a goofball.
