Deconstructing Glenn Beck Lies

Beck Boycott

Sponsors-need sponsors...

Sponsors-need sponsors...

Color of Change.org has been promoting a highly successful campaign to convince advertisers to boycott the Glenn Beck program on the Fox News Channel.

Update 5/18/10

I just got back from www.stopbeck.com and realized that they have taken over the task from another site I had listed previously.

Also… the Washinton Post has put the number of boycotting sponsors at 200! StopBeck has the list at 125, with an explanation of the discrepancy.

Glenn Beck has turned his back on the world of Reality; the real world has returned the favor.

Updated 3/2/10

A very important activist who keeps up-to-date information and ongoing pressure on continuing sponsors is the gent who runs www.stopbeck.com Please stop by and lend a hand with the bookkeeping costs. www.stopbeck.com maintains a complete list of current and dropped sponsors.

Beck is an outrage, an assault on reason and the American way of life. He uses his bully pulpit on Fox “News” to demonize “progressives” by lumping us in with communists, terrorists, criminals, deadbeats, and other “undesirables”. (If this tactic reminds you of Josef Goebbels, I can understand why). He promotes hysterical conspiracy theories about the Obama Administration that are 100% devoid of salient facts. (In other words, he just makes it up). What corporation wants to be associated with a crackpot schmuck who can’t control his mouth?

Last update at the time of this posting was on 2/1, and 114 sponsors have dropped Glenn Beck. The page also lists the remaining sponsors, with contact information you can use to let them know your DISAPPROVAL OF THEIR SUPPORT OF GLENN BECK.

UPDATE 2/1/2010

The list of sponsors is now up to 114! Beck’s program in the UK has run with no sponsors for the last 2 weeks! Way to go, keep making those calls and signing those petitions!

This is very handy for those of us who think crap like THIS doesn’t belong on TV:

Or if you think stuff like THIS doesn’t belong on the radio…

Or if you think spewing insane crap like THIS doesn’t pass muster for public discourse:

  1. I found you from a comment on Story of Stuff blog. I would be happy to boycott any company or product that supports Beck. I don’t watch him, (what I hear occasionally is enough to make my stomach turn) so I have no idea where to begin with the boycotting.
Incidentally, the depiction of Beck as a Joker figure is so accurate!

  2. So your life sucks so much you need to attack a nut like Beck. He’s right though, but he’s a nut. You too appear to be a nut, just a left nut. Here, feel better left nut

  3. Actually, John, my life is fine, in fact it’s better than fine.

However, I fear for your sanity if you believe that Glenn Beck is “right” about anything. In fact, he’s not. He doesn’t actually work with facts very often, and when he does have a factoid or two in one of his syllogisms, the logic is busted.

Since you can’t defend anything Glenn Beck is “right” about, I can’t show you where you’re wrong, but trust me, you are. And your pathetic attempts at personal attack posts will no longer be tolerated, although you are welcome to post here if you have something to say other than “um, you suck”. When you do that, see, it lowers the level of discussion to Glenn Beck’s level.

    Carry on.

  4. I’d appreciate you naming the advertisers, and doing so on many blogs and comments sites. I think getting the word out about who the advertisers are, through existing news forums, will help make a boycot more effective.

It’s fascinating that anyone in America would be ignorant enough to watch this guy. The country really needs to get busy with improving educational and critical thinking programs in the schools.

But I guess if peoples’ parents are related, they hardly stand a chance…

There is a link here to the website “Another War in Jenkin’s Ear, a site that has done a great job of listing all the boycott participants and non-participants. Contact information for the non-participants is on the page. Thanks to @stopbeck for the effort.

For those interested in a more general boycott of Fox News, you may be interested in paying a visit to foxnewsboycott.com.

  6. So, let me get understand you correctly…

Glenn Beck is a threat to the nation, but your support of a boycott against Beck, effectively attacking free speech is not?

And, it is proper for you to degrade and insult someone whom you disagree with, making personal insults that would make a civil person cringe… and yet you yourself threaten to block a reader who does the same to you, only in less than 50 words, and with far less venom than your typical fare?

Is your own inability to look at yourself critically, and recognize the hypocrisy, perhaps part of your issue with the terms “Fair” and “Balanced”?

You don’t gain legitimacy by mirroring the very traits you find detestable in others.

    Just a thought.

  7. When you write bullshit to me, I will block you.

When you write legitimate complaints like this, I’ll post them.

I disagree with your right to fuck up my website with complete and utter bullshit. Yes, it is proper for me to degrade and insult people who write stuff like “Oh, you’re looking for groupies” or “You’ve made a cottage industry out of Glenn Beck”. You IDIOT.

My legitimacy comes from facts. Facts that I post, facts that I write. That’s the only place it comes from, for ANYONE. Opinions can be legitimate when they are supported by facts. What you posted to me was not fact based, it was a lame attempt to insult my website.

  12. I stumbled upon this site from a google search. I’m laughing because obviously your pitiful attempt at harming Glenn Beck was just that…pitiful. He is more popular than ever. And he has no trouble finding sponsors because he has no trouble finding millions of people who agree with what he says. He not only has best selling books, sold out tours, and a popular radio show…but his TV show is number one in it’s time slot and growing every day. He is so popular because he tells the TRUTH. And YOU can’t handle the truth! Nice try though…I bet you feel silly now!

  13. Beck has no sponsors in the UK and hasn’t for several months.

So you’re wrong on that point.

At my last check, 105 sponsors have dropped Beck stateside on Faux News Channel and Beck is doing some of his own commercials for gold. Rupert Murdoch is footing the bill for Glenn Beck’s show.

So you’re wrong on that point, too.

You may or may not think this website is pitiful, nikki, but anyone who listens to Beck and then asserts that he’s telling the truth is among the laughingstock group of the nation. Over half of Beck’s viewers are people who enjoy the clown make a train wreck of his reality. To believe Beck is to live in constant fear that somehow everybody is out to get you, you need to cower behind walls and guns and lots of ammo and gold. To believe Beck is to be so amazingly under-informed about history, social science, and even SPELLING that you see a commie conspiracy behind everything, even the GOP!

LOL I guess you missed the 16 pages of lies Beck told and I debunked HERE. I guess you think that OnStar is a plot to spy on you, AmeriCorps has become a secret police organization with a budget as big as the Pentagon, that Van Jones spent time in prison, that a call to volunteer is a call to communism. You must believe that Obama is a racist who wants reparations for slavery, that Obama wants to destroy America, and that it’s possible to be a communist, socialist, fascist, and Nazi all at the same time.

In other words, you’re a nutcase. Thanks for posting, keep up the good work. I wasn’t sure if you are aware that Glenn Beck has lost a million viewers in the last 9 months, but he has. That’s a fact you probably ought to have in your quiver, since it appears to be pretty much empty.

As far as hurting Beck… my intention is to debunk his lies, not to hurt Beck. I’ll admit that I haven’t been keeping up on it very well, but as I’ve said elsewhere, he lies faster than any person can type. My intention is to debunk those lies, and as Beck tells them he hurts himself. Every lie he tells seeps through eventually, even YOU will understand it, someday. So keep a link to this site handy, Nikki, because when you get your epiphany about Glenn Beck I’ll be looking forward to reading your post.

PS I just checked, nikki, and my first post on this site was September 22, 2009, which is less than 8 months ago. In that time frame, with a budget of about sixty dollars, I have managed to get my website on the first page of Google for the search phrase “glenn beck lies”. I have done next to nothing for SEO.

I guess I’d have to admit that’s more than “pitiful”, given the number of anti-Beck websites that have sprung up like mushrooms. (Another sign of Beck’s immense “popularity”. No wonder he needs bodyguards. Keep an eye peeled, Glenn, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you!)

  14. [...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by William Wexler. William Wexler said: Glenn Beck Advertiser Boycott | The Glenn Beck Report http://glennbeckreport.com/beck-boycott/ [...]

  15. PPS to nikki….

You were laughing about Beck’s sponsorship not being an issue.

Well, it’s getting serious, nikki dear. Goldline is among other metals dealers that are going to be up for review from the FTC and SEC (if your Google isn’t working for you, I’ll be happy to explain the significance of this.) Basically, Anthony Weiner (D, NY) held hearings and determined that anyone who tells you that you are investing in something ought to be legally obligated to tell you what it’s worth at the time you place your order. Further, there seems to be a conflict of interest problem when you are a right wingnut liar who tells your viewers (some of whom are apparently as gullible as you) that the US currency is going to fail so you should buy gold, then turn around and do your OWN gold ad.

Here’s a question for you, nikki. If owning gold is such a good deal, as your man Beck keeps telling you it is, why would anyone want to sell it? Wouldn’t they want to hang onto it?

LOL I kind of feel sorry for the quivering little mass of jello you must be at this horrible moment for Mr. Beck. If you turn up your radio and TV LOUDER, it will make what he says more true.

Trust me. For you, it will work.

  16. Most of what I have read from you is opinion and insult. Thank God for you we are still, at this point in time, a free speech country. You are doing the same exact things you hate that you claim Beck is doing. This being said, I do not respect you or your opinions anymore than I respect Becks. You both seem to be hate mongering morons that deserve no respect.

  17. Thank God? What does God have to do with it? We’re a secular nation, we don’t have laws that came from an old-looking men with long white hair and a beard with choirs of angels. Why is it that you’re always thanking God? Because to me you seem rather simple-minded when you say things like that. What if your neighbors ran around saying “Thank Thor”, or “Thank Superman”, or “Thank Satan”? What would you think of that?

We are not doing the exact same thing as Beck, not in any way, shape or form. In fact, we are the anti-Beck. We take the lies and smears and set the record straight. If you can’t tell the difference, then why am I wasting keystrokes posting to you?

Sweetie, the lack of respect is mutual, you can put that in the bank. Or you can thank God for it.

  18. The difference between Beck’s opinions and ours is that we are grounded in fact. He sets out to lie and incite, we set out to inform. You can’t seriously think that a liar holds more credibility than those that deconstruct him.

  19. I don’t mind you challenging Beck on the facts – every politician, every talk show host (yes even your beloved non-factors on the Left) lies, so get over it. I appreciate you pointing out the occasions when he misses the truth.

But you challenge his opinions as though they were lies. Odd. Weird. I don’t understand.

I laugh because you waste an extraordinary amount of time trying to uncover Beck’s lies… should it really matter to you? Why does it bother you so? If he’s a small, petty, unimportant creature why do you let him worry you to the point of writing a web page devoted to outing his lies?

Methinks thou dost protesteth too much.

Just my $0.02 and don’t bother taunting me with your childish retorts… in a battle of wits you approach me unarmed.

Bye bye doofus. I hope you keep it up… it keeps people like you off the streets.

    Long live free speech.

So, your point is… what? You don’t agree that they’re lies? Fine. Some people are beyond hope.

I hope you don’t implode now that you’ve had the wind blown out of your sails.

  21. JES-

Yeah, lots of people lie. Every talk show host is a huge exaggeration however, and if you think that the left lies more than the right then you have another thing coming.

Can you please show me where we call his opinions lies? We debunk his opinions as stupid, but only his “facts” as lies. If you can show me an example then I can address that.

He’s not small or unimportant. He has influence over millions of people, and that’s why we feel the need to call him out on his lies. If you really think that he’s just some two bit talk show host that holds no sway or importance, then again, you have another thing coming.

And, no. I’m not jealous of you, at all. Have fun with your, erm, superior wit.

  22. Free speech should not give the media the right to present themselves as objective journalists like those on Fox News do and then manipulate public opinion with outright lies and advocate the use of violence. Both the so-called news department at Fox News, as well as the opinion makers, political pundits with airtime on Fox like Glenn the “Profit” Beck, Sean the “Puppet” Hannity, and Bill “O’Really” O’Reilly, do this as a matter of course these days. Sometimes it’s subtle, sometimes it’s in your face. Liberal media outlets employee liars too, and all should be fired, but if they produce sufficient ratings… . Also,I can’t think of any liberal media personal currently encouraging people to take up arms against the government. The Christian and conservative Hutaree Militia under indictment in Michigan was quite serious about using IEDs, just as serious as the insurgents are in Iraq. The only way to pressure Fox News is to pressure their sponsors and threaten profits. However, I fear it won’t be enough. To say it’s hypercritical to use free speech to fight free speech in the only way viable without the use of violence shows the kind of critical thinking that allows idiots like Beck to become the demagogue he is, lying his way to unbelievable riches. His lies and those of the others I mentioned have been long documented by very credible news organizations and that I, to this very day, still find myself being asked to prove their lies over and over again clearly indicates where this country is heading and why it’s heading there. For the way things are in America – it’s not the media liar’s faults. It’s not the politician’s fault. See if you can guess whose fault it is.
I hope all of you in love with the Tea Party and Fox News all find yourselves in the top 20% of income and wealth in America. Everyone likes to think of themselves as part of the middle-class but so few actually still belong to it, sort of like everyone’s a Christian and thinks, “God Helps Those Who Help Themselves” is the Christian approach to charity. If you’d only open those dang bibles and read them… .

  29. Hi Independent,

Thanks for your comment. I’m not clear exactly about what your asking me (in the future, complete sentences with grammar/spelling corrections would help), but if it helps to answer your question, the purpose of my site is to inform people about Glenn Beck, the lies he tells, and the dangers inherent of the views of him and those like him. I could be considered a blogger I suppose, but I see myself more as a person that does the community a service by exposing the truth against conservative lies. I administrate my own site, keep static articles, and accept submissions from other people, so I wouldn’t really consider this a blog.

    Thanks,

  30. Wow,
Congrats on attacking (and defeating) free speech.
I don’t regularly watch Beck, but he does have some valid points, on many subjects. Funny how free speech is considered a “left-leaning” concept, but how it is trampled on by its members…
I will now boycott purchase of any products or services of the “boycott (free speech) companies”.

  31. I don’t have a problem with free speech – as long as said free speech does not involve slander, lies, and encouragement of murder. Those things can actually be felonies. So good luck with the whole “boycotting law-abiding companies” thing.

  32. The majority of facts on the Glenn Beck show are backed up by actual video or audio of the people in the Obama Administration or Soros’ many organizations speaking about their plans for America. Most shows I see, he also invites people to do their own fact checking and research. Simple online searches on his information most always bring up left-wing sources that back up his facts.

  33. In my experience watching him for month, almost every clip he shows is taken out of context. Yes, the people did in fact say the things in the clips. But not in a way that insinuated that they wanted to destroy America. That’s pure Glenn.

    admin(Quinlan)No Gravatar

    22 Apr 11 at 7:39 pm

  34. The program on April 26, 2011 kept me spinning since there were so many facts to cross check, but they all were verified. It delved into the 35,000 reportedly dead since Calderon declared his war on the cartels, into the new government proposal to get a passport if you can’t get your birth certificate (which is crazily complex) to charts about the monetary base. I can’t get this information anywhere else in such a comprehensive format in so short a time. Beck’s opinions on how the executive branch of the government is making the legislative branch irrelevant probably angers some, but he does present it as his opinion, but backs it up with facts.

    BillNo Gravatar

    26 Apr 11 at 8:50 pm

  35. I’m a bit confused when you say you verified facts. There are 2 problems here, and the primary one is not that Beck gets the facts wrong. What he does on a regular basis is come up with a stunning juxtaposition of two Becktoad factards and claim he is now onto a new revelatory conspiracy theory! So check the heirarchy of facts, from the great big ones down. The conclusions being drawn are inaccurate, and the logical leaps being taken to make those decisions are epic.

If Beck was right about the Exe branch taking over the Leg. branch, don’t you think someone else besides Beck would be talking about it? Like Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin? Like why wouldn’t they? Because it’s not really true. What’s happened is that the Legislative branch has been taken over by corporations and the Exec branch has become the focus of apparent power to the unwashed masses of Beckerheads who still haven’t figured out that if you buy single ply toilet paper and have to fold it in two, how is that a good deal? The Exec Branch is, at least for the time being, not plotting to invade any new countries or overthrow any former allies. In fact, it’s left with a lunchbucket full of shit sandwiches that BushInc stuck in the commissary on the way out. Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, al Qaeda, Libya, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, China, the Geneva Conventions and the Hague. So how is Obama making anyone irrelevant other than himself? He goes on TV and tries to reason with the GOPERS and they kick ‘em in the nutsak. Again, and again. I’d like another, sir. Twack. He goes on national TV and says he sternly believes that Afghanistan should be more cooperative about sharing intelligence about al-Qaeda. Karzai flips him off, both hands, with a stream of invective. Nope, not very effective there.

Obama can’t get gun control, a health care bill, immigration reform, an energy policy, high speed rail, or diddly squat from Congress. He can’t save SS, Medicare, the Wisconsin Unions, the EPA, the FCC, OSHA, or any more than a token number of small businesses in the US. So how is this “making Congress irrelevant”?

What’s “irrelevant” once again is Glenn Beck’s paranoid delusion, the delusion that Obama is somewhere between some rasta mofo smiling like Harry Bellafonte and Freddy Fucking Krueger. Beck needs to actually take his head out of his ass now and then and analyze what is really happening out there in the trenches. The Exec is not running the show. BIG BUSINESS is running it, which is evidenced by the fact that Obama can’t even rid his own staff of known criminals and insiders who are going to KILL him in the 2012 campaign.

  36. Hey guys, newcomer to the site here. After looking through the lies and checking out some content, a question formed in my mind, and I’m going to stick my neck out and ask. Before I do, I’d just like to say I agree with a good 90% of what’s on this site. (The other 10% being some of the comments from users, not certain lies or anything of that nature.)

After reading through some posts and such, I found myself looking into the way these facts are portrayed. During which, I saw some of the “u guise are just like Beck lulz” comments. Obviously, I don’t think that’s the case at all, but if I may say, just hear me out here for a second.

Beck portrays his “facts” (and I quote that word, because I honestly think he’s moronic enough to believe absolutely anything he says) in a manner to induce fear and hatred into the minds and thoughts of his viewers.

The both of you (from what I gather, it’s just Quinlan and Wexler? I’m probably incorrect) present actual facts to demean Beck, which I do think he deserves, but (and I hate using that word) seem to do so in a manner that incites a strong hatred for Beck himself. He brought it on himself and probably deserves it, but sometimes, I suppose mainly in some posts on these content articles, it seems somewhat… violent, for severe lack of a better word.

So I suppose that brings me to my actual question: What differences are there between your… presentation(?) and Beck’s? Other than the fact that you’re the ones telling the truth, I suppose. I do hope I don’t sound like a complete dimwit, seeing as the “lies vs. facts” thing is obviously one of the major differences, but it’s a bit hard for me to put it into coherent words, I guess. I’m young.

I already know the big differences between you and Beck; you use facts, are intelligent individuals, and pretty much always know what you’re talking about. And I agree with almost, if not all of the content that you post on this site. I just hope my “presentation” question made sense. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

PS: Apologies for the excessive use of parenthesis.

  37. Hi there, thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your readership. You’re right that it’s just myself and Wexler who man the site (just me now, really), you can find out more on the “about” page if you like.

I appreciate the rational manner in which you raise your concerns and am happy to respond to them. I don’t hate Glenn Beck. I hate what he says, and I hate what he represents. I hate the lies that come out of his mouth, but even more so I hate the fact that people buy them word for word. What you’re right about is that he likely believes the vast majority of the garbage that spews from him. If he did, he would deserve my hatred, but more than anything he deserves pity, and he deserves what I give – warning. I don’t try to incite people to hate Beck, because I do not think that they should. I try to warn people not to TRUST Beck, and to tell people that they need to think for themselves. If displaying hundreds of his lies causes readers to hate him, so be it. It’s not something I encourage, but in all honesty it’s not something I’m not at peace with either. But my reason for displaying the lies is simply to have people realize that they need to think before they believe. What we need to fear, is fear itself.

All of that said, Wexler (who recently retired, but I still talk to) and I have very different methods of communication. Wexler tends to have an admittedly quick temper, and though he has far more intelligence between the two of us, also tends to jump straight to insults rather than using his armada of factual statements. I don’t have much of a temper (with a few exceptions, homophobes make me very angry very quickly), and enjoy being kind to those who are unkind to me, and simply point out factual errors. It shows that the liberal is the rational one, and it also makes them even angrier which can be quite entertaining. There is a lot of content on the site from the both of us, and it does differ quite a lot in style.

Thanks again for your readership, and I’d be happy to address any more questions or concerns.
